The rebuilding of the Kentucky Wildcats basketball program looks like it has already been completed.
With No. 1 Texas losing twice last week, Kentucky has jumped from No. 2 to the top of the polls.
For head coach John Calipari, it is the third school that he has lead to the top ranking in the nation.
Calipari isn’t concerned about his team’s inflated ego with the top ranking, saying most of his players are pretty level-headed.
Kentucky stands a good chance of retaining the No. 1 ranking for awhile considering the parity in the SEC this year.

Heading into Saturday’s tilt with the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Kentucky Wildcats knew that a win would mean the nation’s No. 1 ranking next week. Some wondered how well the young team would handle that pressure.
The answer? The same way they have all season: With points.
Kentucky started hot and never cooled off, building a 44-point lead en route to a 101-70 beating of visiting Arkansas. Twelve players scored for the Wildcats, led by Darius Miller’s career-high 18. Freshmen John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins each added 16, with the latter also recording a game-high 14 rebounds in the team’s most complete performance of the season.
The Wildcats hit the road for their first test as No. 1, taking on the South Carolina Gamecocks on Tuesday night.

Kentucky Wildcats head coach Rich Brooks has announced his retirement.
Brooks coached the Wildcats for seven years after spending many seasons with the Oregon Ducks.
He also spent a couple of seasons in the NFL as the head coach of the St. Louis Rams. He finishes his career with a losing record in every coaching stint.
A lot of players pleaded with Brooks to return, but he said he knew it was time to walk away from the game.
Offensive head coach Joker Phillips has been promoted to head coach and was essentially already guaranteed the job.
